Happy Names ("we", "us", or "our") operates the Happy Names mobile application. This page informs you of our policies regarding the collection, use, and disclosure of personal data when you use our app.
1. Data We Collect
Data you provide through app usage
- Name preferences — likes, dislikes, and pairwise comparisons you make while using the app
- Settings — your chosen gender, region, and filter preferences
- Pairing data — when you connect with a partner, we store the link between your accounts
Data collected automatically
- Anonymous identifier — a unique device-based ID created when you first open the app (no email, name, or password is required)
- Crash reports — anonymized technical data to help us fix bugs (if analytics are enabled)
Data we do NOT collect
- Your real name, email address, or phone number
- Your location
- Photos, contacts, or other device data
- Advertising identifiers
2. How We Use Your Data
- To generate your personalized name rankings
- To share your preferences with your paired partner (only when you choose to pair)
- To improve app stability and fix bugs
We do not sell your data. We do not use your data for advertising.
3. Data Storage and Security
Your data is stored in Google Firebase (Firestore), which provides encryption at rest and in transit. Data is stored on servers in the European Union. The app uses offline-first architecture — your preferences are saved locally on your device first, then synchronized with our servers when a connection is available.
4. Data Sharing
We share your data only in the following cases:
- With your paired partner — your name likes, dislikes, and rankings are visible to anyone you pair with. You can unpair at any time.
- With service providers — we use Google Firebase for infrastructure (authentication, database, hosting). Google processes data on our behalf under their data processing terms.
We do not share your data with any other third parties.
5. Data Retention
We retain your data for as long as your account exists. Since accounts are anonymous and tied to your device, your data persists until you actively delete it or uninstall the app.
6. Your Rights
You have the right to:
- Delete your data — use the "Delete all my data" option in the app's Settings, or request deletion online. This permanently removes all your data from our servers.
- Access your data — the app displays all your likes, dislikes, and rankings directly in the interface.
- Disconnect from a partner — unpair at any time from Settings to stop sharing data.
If you are in the EU, you additionally have the right to data portability, the right to restrict processing, and the right to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority.
7. Children's Privacy
Happy Names is intended for use by adults (expectant or new parents). We do not knowingly collect data from children under 16. If you believe a child has used our app, please contact us and we will delete their data.
8. Changes to This Policy
We may update this policy from time to time. We will notify you of significant changes by displaying a notice in the app. The "last updated" date at the top reflects the most recent revision.
